Recently, China has achieved a major breakthrough in the research and application of core energy storage equipment. The independently developed 105MW 2-pole high-speed motor, "Chulong 105", has been officially put into operation at the national 300MW compressed air energy storage demonstration power station in Feicheng, Shandong Province. The successful application of the equipment marks a leap-forward upgrade in the research, development, manufacturing and engineering application of high-power synchronous motors in China, laying a solid core equipment foundation for the high-quality development of long-duration and large-scale compressed air energy storage industry in China and making up for the core hardware shortcomings of the industry. Developed collaboratively by Wolong Electric Nanyang Explosion-proof Group Co., Ltd., China Energy Storage (Beijing) Technology Co., Ltd. and other leading industrial enterprises, the benchmark high-speed motor is currently the operating motor with the largest single-unit power of its kind worldwide. Adopting an innovative integrated design, the motor has a rated power of 105MW and a rated speed of 3000 revolutions per minute, and can flexibly adapt to dual operating conditions of motor operation and power generation, meeting the full-process operational requirements of energy storage power stations.

In terms of core performance, the comprehensive operating efficiency of the motor reaches 98.8%, with the shaft vibration of the shaft extension end being only 28μm and that of the non-shaft extension end as low as 19μm. All key performance indicators have reached the world's top level. Compared with conventional combined multi-motors of the same power, "Chulong 105" can save more than 40% of the station floor area and reduce annual electricity costs by about 1.8 million yuan. It effectively cuts down the early construction investment and long-term operation costs of energy storage power stations, and greatly improves the economic benefits of projects.

The motor holds completely independent intellectual property rights. The R&D team has successfully overcome a series of core technical challenges including high-efficiency operation, low vibration control and high-reliability adaptation for high-power motors. It thoroughly solves many industrial pain points of the traditional split multi-motor combined operation mode, such as complex working condition regulation, low overall system efficiency, cumbersome installation and commissioning processes, and high equipment failure rate, greatly improving the operational stability and safety of the energy storage system. Meanwhile, the application of the equipment completely ends China's reliance on imported high-power high-speed motors of hundred-megawatt level, breaks through the core "bottleneck" technology in the industry, and fills the domestic gap in products and technologies of hundred-megawatt level dual-working-condition high-speed motors.

As the carrying platform of the motor, the national 300MW compressed air energy storage demonstration power station in Feicheng, Shandong is currently the operational new-type compressed air energy storage demonstration project with the largest single-unit scale, the most advanced technical system and the optimal unit comprehensive cost across the globe. The successful launch of the 105MW 2-pole high-speed motor will strongly support the large-scale promotion and industrial upgrading of long-duration and large-scale compressed air energy storage technology in China, continuously empower the transformation and upgrading of the energy structure, and boost the high-quality development of green and low-carbon society.
